The clip gets off to a memorable start, with the Smith household being surrounded by armed soldiers who call for Rick and Morty’s arrest. Then, set to Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” the rest of the season 5 trailer previews the excitement that’s to come, which involves the destruction of various American monuments, a Rick clone, and more ragging on Jerry. Rick and Morty season 5 also seems poised to return to the show’s beloved parodies, some of which have been teased in the above trailer. This includes a Hellraiser episode and a Voltron-esque mission that involves the entire family, which is shown through multiple glimpses here. Additionally, this Rick and Morty trailer puts the spotlight on the show’s meta humor, such as the moment where Rick says he’s going to “deus ex machina this sh**.” The part where Morty comments on how little time he’s spent in school since Rick moved in also elicits laughs.
Rick and Morty will be sticking around for much longer than just season 5, so fans don’t have to worry about whether this will be the final season. In fact, a writer for the show commented earlier this year that they’ve already begun work on Rick and Morty season 7. Whether the story of season 5 will end up bleeding into future installments remains to be seen, but there’s already a great deal of excitement for what’s ahead. Luckily, it all kicks off next month.
