So excited we are getting to chat with you Mark!
2020 was a wild ride for most! Tell us what is something positive you gained from 2020?
2020 was THE most learning year so far! Right away, I had clients that wanted to record! There was absolutely no touring or stage performances, so the studio was everyone’s destination. However, at first, they were closed. So ZOOM and listening to links were the thing. Immediately we figured out how to record over the internet, zooming into studios and NOW there was not a barrier of distance. I recorded artists in New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles. It became an extremely busy and creative year. I also wrote 2 musicals. I learned that since I couldn’t vacation, I’ll just keep creating and it was, and still is, a busy year.
We would love to hear more about you – how did you get started in music?
I studied music as a kid. All I wanted to do was play the piano.
I started at 4. Then as a teenager, I became the Music Director for “MUSIC OF MANY LANDS”. A television series produced in Anaheim, about a mile from Disneyland (so was my house) and I played and sang on camera, too. Actually, since it was local tv at first – I did everything from acting to writing theme songs and arranging vocals for guest singers. It found success, and became A Western ITV Production, at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood. I stayed with the show through high school and college…I did over 100 shows, and learned everything about music for television.
Also during high school, I got into THE YOUNG AMERICANS.
The group performed all over the world and opened for many famous performers. I was a featured singer and the first ‘kid’ to direct concerts and do arrangements for the group. We did television shows, concerts and tours with dozens of celebrities. And like they say, boom, I was in show business LOL.
What is the greatest challenge you have overcome in the music industry?
Wow what a question. I think I would have to say, deciding what I wanted to be when I grew up. I loved EVERYTHING about music, and so picking a path was hard. I was a singer/songwriter, a piano player, tv music director, a composer and arranger…so I finally decided to do all of it and help others and produce THEM. It’s awesome.
Tell us what has been your biggest win this year professionally.
I can tell you that in about 4 weeks. It’s a big job and can’t wait to announce!
Favorite song out this year so far?
Well, it was released before, but I’m a big Bruno Mars fan and Leave the Door open, with Anderson Paak wins for me.
