Texas-based country superstar in the making Madelyn Victoria makes her 2021 return with the engaging and complex “Good at Goodbye”, her first single in over 3 years. Victoria has always had a strong love of music even at a young age, and she’s dabbled in a little bit of everything artistically from modelling to competitive singing (which makes sense when you hear her powerful soprano voice) and even trained to become a vocal performance and acting coach and all of that is an impressive resume before even 2012 when she won the Shania Twain Sing-Off, beating competitors from all over the world.

To underestimate this girl would be a fool’s errand and boy, would I love to meet the guy who pissed her off the way she sings about in this song. It’s about how living your life after someone took you for granted is a version of “success is the best revenge” but rather than just gloating about her musical successes which she could have well done, she takes things in a “turn the other cheek” direction of knowing that it could have been anyone that this happened to, and she takes it all in stride because sometimes you have to go through some pain to come out stronger on the other end. The message of the song I think is one of its strongest highlights and the performance Victoria gives it is highly believable and awe-inspiring. I could easily see this becoming any girl’s favorite song but especially for teenagers and young adults who have to navigate some of the most difficult times of their lives. It’s a song about how messy people can be for no reason, but it’s not an excuse to close off your heart because ultimately you will be better for having gone through this even though it hurts in the moment and these are things that

Victoria definitely pays lip service too, but by the time she gets to the end, the song has a truly transformative moment where despite her saying that the man that hurt her, who can’t even acknowledge her existence was the one who was “Good at Goodbyes” in a way, Victoria completely flips the script and subverts our expectations when you realize, it’s actually her who’s the best at saying goodbye to this part of her life, and she does it with a smile on her face, but holding onto how important some of these moments were. It’s kind of a “La La Land” scenario for those who’ve seen the movie where you know that these characters hurt because at the end of the day, they got what they wanted, but they couldn’t keep each other, and sometimes that’s life. The music is fantastic with clanging energy that’ll make anyone wanna share this song with someone they love, for probably better or worse depending on how they view that person and I could see this becoming a bar favorite among people looking to blow off some emotional stream.
