Give us your top 3 songs you’re listening to right now for some music inspiration?

The music I listen to is often different from the songs I write, but I’ve been obsessed with a band from the UK called IDLES for the last year or so. Their new album is great, but I like almost every song they’ve released. I ‘ve also been listening to Foals a ton. Brilliant arrangements with a wide sonic palate. The drums are nuts. I love everything about the band. ‘Black Gold’ was the first song I heard by them, so I’m late to the party as usual. I always go back to 90s bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis too, which makes its way into some of my stuff unintentionally.

Your aesthetic is really cool, everything from the fashion to your music seems like it all has its purpose. How much time do you spend on making sure that it all works in cohesion?
I stick to the basics in music and fashion. I have always been a tshirt and jeans guy, but I appreciate leather and denim too. Boots and jackets are an essential addition to all things.

What’s a trend to stay away from in music and fashion?

I try to avoid worrying about what people think about my music. People pleasing has no place for artists, unless you’re a producer trying to get placements with artists. I try to stay honest in my songwriting and in my personal life. I keep up with how producers are evolving and the new sounds that are becoming popular, but I avoid the pressure to buy into it in the hopes that it will become more immediately popular. I’m not so concerned with being popular as I am with connecting to listeners authentically.

What is your vision for your 2021 music?

I’ve grown up performing live with bands and as a solo performer, and I’ve neglected the recording and marketing side of the business, so I’ve learned a valuable lesson from the pandemic and how much I enjoy being in a studio and working with close friends to achieve a common goal that will exist forever. Live shows are great, but recordings are immortal. I plan to record and release as much music as possible until it’s time to get back on the road.
