Real Housewives of Beverly Hills feels so far away, and yet like it happened just yesterday. This last season of RHOBH carried on the YEARS-long tradition of creating one storyline for the whole season, designed to humiliate ONE woman. Last year it was Lisa Vanderpump and puppy gate. The year before was Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave (which in hindsight, I don’t mind that one so much). The year before that was Erika Girardi and panty-gate. This year it was Denise Fu**ing Richards and an ALLEGED sexual encounter, with RHOBH’s self-proclaimed truth teller, Brandi Glanville.
Do you want to revisit any of those seasons? I don’t. Seasons that beat to death a single story are totally unenjoyable. Housewives works best, IMHO, when the show features a truly ensemble cast. Real Housewives of New York City, Atlanta, and Salt Lake City even seem to understand this implicitly. Plus, these series, along with New Jersey, Potomac, Dallas and yes, Orange County have women who are willing to show their lives. RHOBH doesn’t do either of these things and yet, it was the most-watched series in the franchise.
Us Weekly reports that RHOBH received the highest ratings (1.696) in 2020 of all the Housewives series. RHOA’s “season 13 premiere garnered 1.418 million viewers,” which is a far cry from the 3.6 million viewers they were getting during season 4. That was a franchise high across all series.
RHONY “hit a rating high of 1.325” million viewers. RHONJ isn’t far behind that, with a high of “1.321 million viewers.” RHOP follows next with “its highest rating yet at 1.309.” If you’re not watching these reunions or Potomac in general, you need to start!

RHOC is still kicking. “The series’ highest rated episode hit scored 1.123 million viewers so far.” Finally, RHOSLC may be in last – but it’s good! US Weekly says, “while the new franchise is currently the lowest-rated, hitting a high of 0.785 so far, Andy Cohen has told fans not to worry as the network considers the series a ‘hit’.” Because it IS a hit. Start watching people, it’s great.
2020 sucked and we wanted to escape to a land of rich people without problems or COVID. RHOBH delivered on that end. However, I do wonder if it would have done as well if we weren’t in a pandemic. I also really hope these numbers don’t indicate to producers that the way they’ve been sharing story is working. It’s not.
