In the most recent episode of Real Housewives of Orange County, viewers watched the ladies dealing with the beginning of the pandemic, just before filming shut down. Apparently, Kelly Dodd was bored and spent the better part of 2020 dropping false, and dangerous, statements about the coronavirus pandemic.
In April 2020, Kelly lashed out on Instagram at someone who was critical of Kelly flying from New York back to California after visiting her fiancé, Rick Leventhal. “Do you know how many people died from the H1N1, the swine flu or SARS? It’s 25% get your facts straight you only hearing numbers not the reality! It’s God’s way of thinning the herd!” Kelly said. Sigh. She did apologize, but it was way too little and way too late.
Dr. Kelly Dodd continued to spread misinformation about the pandemic. In May, in an Instagram Live post, the RHOC star seemed to compare the virus to the flu.
Later the same month, Kelly posted a video to her Instagram Stories of her in a restaurant, without a mask, saying that said that no one was dying from Covid-19 in Orange County. Why does she still have an orange?
And, in September, she told the world that “it’s not a pandemic anymore!!” Kelly experienced a lot of social media backlash about her comments, and rightfully so.

What is horrifying is that Kelly’s RHOC co-star Shannon Beador and her three daughters were diagnosed with coronavirus in July. Then Kelly’s own mother, Bobbi Meza, was admitted to the ICU in November because she contracted Covid.
According to People, Kelly appeared on Watch What Happens Live on December 2 and addressed her statements about the pandemic. Kelly said that she “regrets” her comments that coronavirus was “God’s way of thinning the herd.” Let the backpedaling begin!
Kelly explained, “At the time, it was a question –like, ‘Why are all these people dying? … Why [do] pandemics happen like this? Is it God’s way of thinning the herd?’”
She added, “It was a stupid thing for me to say. It was insensitive and I apologize if I hurt or offended anybody, ’cause that wasn’t really my intention. I got freaked out about it and in hindsight, it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever said,” Kelly admitted. Well, one of them at least.

“You guys have to realize this was back in January when this happened and I was misinformed,” Kelly said. “I’m claustrophobic and I can’t stand wearing a mask –and now I understand the science behind it and I am ready, willing and able to wear a mask,” the RHOC star remarked. Give that woman a standing ovation!
“And I know it’s important, because I don’t want to get sick and I don’t want to get others sick. I’m just a human being; I make mistakes,” Kelly said.
Kelly also briefed Andy Cohen on her mother’s condition. She shared, “My mom and I are estranged right now. I found out she had COVID and [was in the] ICU– my older brother didn’t even know, either –through Instagram,” Kelly said. “I ended up talking to her at Thanksgiving and she is doing fine. She’s at home.”
