The Mandalorian: Will Ahsoka Train Baby Yoda To Be A Jedi?

Movies

Baby Yoda has proven himself a powerful Force-wielder, but will Ahsoka Tano become his Jedi teacher in The Mandalorian season 2? Ever since Din Djarin decided to take custody of the strange green alien he discovered on a bounty hunting mission for the Empire, he’s been seeking a permanent home for the youngster. But Yoda’s species is the most mysterious in all of Star Wars, and the Jedi are nothing more than a myth during The Mandalorian‘s timeline, so finding somewhere The Child can call home is no easy feat. After learning about the Jedi from The Armorer in season 1, Djarin finally has a destination in The Mandalorian season 2. Rumors of a Mandalorian warrior on Tatooine proved fruitless, but the desert planet pointed Djarin towards the moon of Trask, where he bumped into Bo-Katan Kryze. From her time in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Bo-Katan knew where one of these fabled Jedi could be found.

With Ahsoka Tano and Baby Yoda set to meet imminently, it’s natural to assume that the youngster could become Ahsoka’s padawan apprentice. Both characters are Force-users, and Ahsoka will recognize Baby Yoda’s species after spending time with Master Yoda. Jedi and Sith have an innate desire to pass on their knowledge, and with so few of them still alive, it’s logical for Ahsoka to take Baby Yoda under her tutelage and ensure he doesn’t fall to the egg-eating, Force-choking dark side.

Unfortunately, Ahsoka may not be the Jedi teacher The Mandalorian fans are expecting. Firstly, Ahsoka is technically no longer affiliated with the Jedi Order. The Togruta was once the padawan of Anakin Skywalker and fought for the Jedi in the Clone Wars, but after being falsely accused of attacking the Jedi temple on Coruscant, she left the Order behind and struck out on her own. Ahsoka doesn’t necessarily need to own a Jedi membership card to take Baby Yoda on as a student, but her disassociation from their ranks means Ahsoka is less likely to continue the Jedi legacy by training Baby Yoda.

More importantly, the timeline of Star Wars doesn’t allow for the training of another Jedi in The Mandalorian. If Ahsoka Tano takes Baby Yoda as a student, then the duo should be a strong master-and-apprentice tandem by the era of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. This ruins the entire emphasis of The Last Jedi, in which the lineage of the Jedi Order comes solely down to Luke Skywalker and Rey. If Ahsoka had trained Baby Yoda, the line of Jedi wouldn’t end on Ahch-To. Ahsoka might’ve kept her student hidden from the rest of the galaxy, but this begs the question of why she and Baby Yoda wouldn’t at least participate in the final battle against Palpatine.

Finally, The Mandalorian revolves around the bond between Din Djarin and Baby Yoda. Ahsoka Tano may join the Razor Crest crew for a while, and might pass on a few tips on how to master the Force, but taking The Child as an official student would interfere with future seasons of The Mandalorian. Instead, Ahsoka may point Din Djarin towards Yoda’s actual home planet, where The Child can be with his actual people, not just other morally-conflicted Force practitioners. Ahsoka might also help Djarin realize that Baby Yoda has already found his forever home – riding shotgun on the Razor Crest.
