Pokémon GO Makes Victini Available To Trainers Who Didn’t Attend Go Fest

Trainers in Pokémon GO now have the opportunity to catch the Mythical Pokémon Victini even if they didn’t purchase a ticket for Pokémon GO Fest 2020. Victini was offered earlier this year exclusively to players who had purchased tickets to Pokémon GO Fest, allowing those trainers to be among the first to get their hands on the game’s newest mythical monster.

Victini is a psychic and fire-type mythical Pokémon added to the series in Generation 5. The Unova region of Pokémon Black and White introduced 156 new Pokémon to the National Pokédex, including Victini. Trainers were able to encounter Victini for the first time in the series by visiting Liberty Garden. The scripted encounter is a pretty simple battle as Victini appears at level 15, making it easier to catch than most other Mythical and Legendary Pokémon. Pokémon GO makes up for this underwhelming encounter by making players complete various sets of tasks before they are able to encounter Victini.

While premium Pokémon GO Fest attendees were given a few months head start, the official Pokémon GO Twitter announced that the Victini challenges are now available for all trainers to complete. The challenges come in the form of another Special Research Story titled “Investigate a Mysterious Energy.” During this questline, players will assist Professor Willow in researching the different energies that Pokémon produce, leading up to the discovery of Victini. Although GO Fest 2020 was a limited time event, there is no time frame in which players are required to complete these special research tasks.

Though it’s exciting that Victini is now accessible in Pokémon GO, the research tasks will take a while to complete. There are six sets of three challenges in the “Investigate a Mysterious Energy” quest line, but luckily, players only have to complete four sets of these challenges before they are able to catch Victini. These challenges include spinning 30 PokéStops or Gyms, catching 60 Fire and Psychic-type Pokémon, earning candies from walking, and various other time-consuming tasks. For trainers who were able to obtain Victini during GO Fest 2020, they will not be able to catch a second one but will instead be rewarded with bonus Victini candies.

While these tasks may take some time to complete, they are well worth the reward. Victini may not be the strongest in battle, but it is a unique and rare Pokémon that can be added to a trainer’s collection. Victini can also be traded with for other rare or more powerful Pokémon, but trainers should keep in mind that they only have one chance to obtain a Victini in Pokémon GO.
