Tyra Banks at the center of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ elimination mix-up

The “craziness of live TV” was in full swing on Monday’s installment of “Dancing with the Stars” when host Tyra Banks mistakenly announced the wrong pair up for elimination.

While reading off the list of couples who had been spared, Banks stated Anne Heche and partner Keo Motsepe, along with NFL star Vernon Davis and dancer Peta Murgatroyd, were in the bottom two. Moments later, the 46-year-old host confirmed there had been an error, saying Davis and Murgatroyd were actually safe but that Monica Aldama of “Cheer” and partner Val Chmerkovskiy could be going home.

“There’s actually been an error, I’m looking right now and we have three couples, so we need to clarify that,” Banks said off-camera. “The bottom two couples are Anne and Keo, and Monica and Val, please have Monica come back.”

“There has been an error in our control room, but we are making it happen. This is live TV, right? This is the craziness of live TV,” Banks said.

Banks then moved to the center of the ballroom with the bottom two couples standing beside her.

“This is live TV. I was reading my cards but my cards were wrong,” Banks said.

Judges Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba then chose to spare Aldama and Chmerkovskiy, with Heche and Motsepe ultimately getting the boot.

Naturally, Twitter had a few things to say on Monday, with some viewers calling for the return of former hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

“Someone do us all a favor and get Tyra Banks off of Dancing With The Stars and bring back Tom & Erin! Thanks #DWTS,” one viewer tweeted.

“Dancing with the Stars is ruined. Was such a good show. Bring back Tom and Erin,” another posted.

“What a mess Tyra Banks made on Dancing with the Stars! She forgot to give the safe sign to one and sent another that wasn’t safe…then…had to call them back to see which couple was eliminated, them or Keo’s team; luckily it wasn’t them …..she is no Tom Bergeron for sure!” a viewer wrote.

Banks joined “Dancing with the Stars” in July, following the departures of Bergeron and Andrews. Last month, Banks addressed criticism she’s received a handful of episodes into her new role, including saying the wrong words on camera.

“Yeah, I had a lot of fun, but I messed up, I said the wrong words, but the thing is, I kept, kept going,” she said on TikTok last month.

Season 29 of “Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
