Andy Cohen Dorinda Medley

No one can deny that Season 12 of Real Housewives of New York was a rough one for Dorinda Medley. I love Dorinda, but her explosive outbursts really aggravated me this season. What happened to the fun Dorinda and her sassy one-liners?

Her favorite target this season was RHONY co-star Tinsley Mortimer. Dorinda called out Tinsley for not being transparent about her life and her relationship with Chicago businessman Scott Kluth.

At Sonja Morgan’s drag queen bingo party, Dorinda went ballistic when Leah McSweeney mentioned Tinsley’s name. Dorinda started screaming that Tinsley almost ruined the show.

Tinsley did escape Dorinda leave RHONY mid-season to move to Chicago to be with Scott. And Scott finally popped the question in November 2019.

Dorinda announced in August that she was leaving Real Housewives of New York. It was a bit of surprise since Season 12 is still airing. In an Instagram post, Dorinda said, “What a journey this has been. I have laughed and cried and tried to Make it Nice…But all things must come to an end. This was a great outlet for me to heal when my late husband Richard passed away,” Dorinda wrote.

“I have met so many interesting people and learned so much about myself, about life and about women along the way,” Dorinda stated. “I wish you all health, happiness and success. Clip!”

There are rumors that Dorinda was actually axed from the show because she refused to take responsibility for her actions and was difficult to work with. That is a good possibility based on Dorinda’s anger issues this season.

When Tinsley shared her good news about relocating to Chicago, Dorinda’s response was straight-up cruel. “I’ve got a turkey baster — maybe try and have a baby,” Dorinda said.

Page Six reported in early September that Dorinda’s comment about the turkey baster infuriated Real Housewives producer Andy Cohen and was a factor in her firing. In February of 2019, Andy welcomed his son, Benjamin Allen Cohen, via surrogate.

According to Page Six, Andy addressed Dorinda’s departure on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. Andy called Dorinda “iconic,” and admitted that this season wasn’t “a great season” for her.

As for the turkey baster remark, Andy said that he “didn’t like the comment,” but stated that it had no bearing on Dorinda leaving RHONY. “She said something at the reunion that struck us all, which was that she should’ve taken the year off this year. She was in a bad place,” Andy explained.

“Her house had been flooded, her dad was sick. We lost Bethenny [Frankel] right as filming began and we lost Tinsley halfway through the season, so maybe Dorinda didn’t feel like she could take the year off,” the Bravo host said.

Andy hopes that Dorinda will be “renewed and refreshed,” and possibly one day return to RHONY. “I am really hopeful that this is indeed a pause, and that she will rejoin the show at some point,” Andy stated. “I have said that to her a couple of times, and by the way, I do not say that too often.”
