While the first official published version of Monopoly was launched in 1935 by Parker Brothers, the game’s history actually goes back a bit further. The game is based off of an earlier game from 1903 known as The Landlord’s Game, created by Lizzie Magie, before being adapted into the Monopoly known and loved around the world today. Now owned by Hasbro, the game has grown into countless different iterations, even breaking free of its physical board and reaching the virtual world through video games. The series has created an endless supply of boards based on licenced properties; from Star Wars to Spider-Man to Bob’s Burgers and now to Attack on Titan.
The board is a sight to behold, featuring an image of Eren Yeager standing down a Colossal Titan as it looms over the wall of the burning city below. Even the box it comes in is gorgeous, featuring the crests of the different sects of the military; the Training Corps, the Garrison, Survey Corps, and the Military Police Brigade. Replacing the traditional Monopoly pieces are six custom metal game tokens specific to the Attack on Titan universe, including Omni-Direction Mobility Gear, Key Necklace, Sword, Supply Wagon, Cannon, and Flare Gun.
Rather than the usual properties, this game instead features different people, events, and banners from the franchise, giving players a chance to roll for their favorite characters. Traditional Houses and Hotels are instead custom Wall Sections and Gate Marias, while Community Chest and Chance cards that are now titled Command and Tactics. Even the money, the main point of the game, has been beefed up with custom Attack on Titan theming.
The sets are already flying off of shelves, both physical and virtual, so Titan devotees need to act quick. Whether simply a huge fan of the game itself, a die hard Attack on Titan fan, or even both, this set is a must have for even the most casual of collectors.
