The Floyds feat. Altrina Renee “One More Night”

Music, News

There’s no heavy lifting required to enjoy the single “One More Night”. The Floyds and featured vocalist Altrina Renee come together on this track to give music fans a satisfying listening experience they seldom receive these days. In the slush pile of modern music, finding the tracks that stand out and leave a lasting impact on you can often seem like searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack. You’ve found the needle, however, with “One More Night”. It’s even more impressive they created the song under such unusual circumstances. They recorded the track at Writrz Block studio where artists from any genre are challenged to record a finished product within three hours and, if they meet that goal, the song is released to the general public with the hope it will strike gold and become a hit. It remains to be seen if this track will reach a mass audience, but it deserves that opportunity.

There are multiple reasons why. The first and foremost is the vocal talent on display throughout the song. Speech’s hip-hop style during the verses has plenty to recommend it, equal parts personality and swagger, but the real star of the performance is New Jersey’s Altrina Renee, a powerhouse singer with an old school soul vibe who can likely dominate any track she appears on. She is used sparingly here, almost like an exclamation point for everything else going on around her, but she commands your attention whenever she enters the track. The production does a first-class job of capturing her talents in this recording and she leaves you wanting more – like all the great singers do.

She brings a sense of poetry and stakes to even the most common of subjects. The subject for this song is simple enough, the fun of having a good time, but in her hands it seems like something more, something continually life-changing and memorable. The words never overstep their mandate – there isn’t a single extraneous line or phrase and both vocalists roll through the track with utter confidence, never placing a foot wrong during the performance. You feel comfortable from the outset and, after the first listen to this track, don’t be surprised if you want to hear it more. It grows on you with each successive listen.

The music for the song doesn’t incorporate any live musicians, relying instead on electronic instruments, but that’s not a drawback. Artists are asked to work with a preselected backing track when taking up the Writrz Block challenge and it’s clear these performers chose well. The percussion establishes a memorable groove for them to follow and they milk it for all its worth. There are light synthesizers flourishes built into the track, but they bring an extra splash of color rather than playing any sort of lead role in developing the song. This track has everything you want in a hit single without ever feeling like they are pandering to the audience. It is vibrant, full of personality and life, and strikes a chord that many listeners will eagerly respond to and enjoy.
