Luanne Hunt’s independent release “We Rise”

News

If given the opportunity would you listen to music that gives you joy and love, or would you listen to music that makes you dance? We all have different reasons for what we choose in our tastes of music, but every once in a while my world gets shook and I get swept away by something that I normally would have dismissed. Luanne Hunt’s independent release “We Rise” on the surface is a lovely tune, a song that makes you smile. It’s after a few listens that you realize “We Rise” is meant to marinate and knock-knock its way into your soul.

Hunt is used to changing minds and turning heads. Her album Breaking Through produced two hit singles on U.S. and European charts. “Solace In The Wind” topped the European Country Music Association’s chart (Belgium) in 2010. Hunt’s “Christmas Without You”, went to No. 1 on the European Country Music Association chart in France, Denmark and Austria. Hunt, who is originally from Pennsylvania but now based in Las Vegas, was inducted into the Independent Superstars Country Music Hall of Fame. Additionally, she is a four-time American Songwriting Awards winner and received two “CD of the Year” awards from the National Traditional Country Music Association.

Part pop, mostly adult contemporary and a sprinkle of contemporary Christian music, “We Rise” has a soothing piano with an accompanying acoustic guitar. The music bed is airy, it’s like natural sunlight shining through windows first morning light. The piano is nearly dainty, it’s pretty. The acoustic guitar subtly makes its presence known. It weaves its way around the piano like Clematis flowers climb up walls. If you listen closely, there are little chirps, like hummingbirds, little bright sparks that seem to shimmer. The underlying vocals on the chorus are uplifting and sound like angels throughout the track.

With her country background and the simple, but effective chorus, “we rise”, Hunt gives the listener a chance to reflect and contemplate. I think her country music background gives her an edge in really connecting with her fans and listeners. She’s a storyteller at heart, and while this song has limited lyrics, the message is still very powerful and imaginative. Her voice is like champagne when she sings “soar on the wings of a dove, when we feel like giving up…our eyes on the prize”. She mixes in other voices – talking with testimonials like “we rise above our doubts and our fears”. There are like three or four of these voices, men and women. I wasn’t so sure I liked the inclusion of these on the first listen, but after a few times, I thought it was pretty neat. It’s different, but nice.

“We Rise” allowed me to have my heart and mind dance. It gave me an opportunity to fulfill both auditory and emotional reactions. The song grew on me. Hunt’s voice is unique and I liked that she has such a positive message. With such a long, successful career, “We Rise” shows Hunt’s artistic growth.
