‘Equilibrium’ Director Currently Filming a New Take on Stephen King’s ‘Children of the Corn’ in Australia

While entertainment productions here in America are still on hold for the foreseeable future, there are some filmmakers around the globe who are shooting during the pandemic. And one of those productions, believe it or not, is a never-announced new take on Stephen King‘s Children of the Corn.

Relatively under the radar, producer Lucas Foster (Ford v Ferrari) and director Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Ultraviolet) have been filming a remake of Children of the Corn over in Australia, a production casually mentioned in an article posted by The Hollywood Reporter last week. The article is titled Shooting During the Pandemic: How Global Producers Have Found New Ways to Work, and Wimmer’s Children of the Corn is briefly profiled.

THR’s Scott Roxborough writes, “On the outskirts of Sydney, producer Lucas Foster (Ford v Ferrari) and director Kurt Wimmer have managed to quietly continue their shoot on The Children of the Corn, a remake of the 1984 horror classic, despite lockdown measures imposed across Australia on March 23.”

The article notes that “Foster secured an exemption to the general quarantine rules,” with the outdoor shooting locations, limited cast/crew and safety protocols that have been put in place allowing for filming to continue right now. Interestingly, as reported by The Daily Mail over the weekend, police were recently called to the set due to complaints that the filmmakers were in fact not respecting social distancing guidelines.

The production team, however, insists that safety protocols are being followed and the production will shut down if it’s at any point determined to no longer be safe. For now, it seems that filming is currently still underway on the horror remake.

The most recent Children of the Corn film, subtitled Runaway, was released in 2018. It was the long-running franchise’s tenth movie.

Thanks to Jeremy from Club Stephen King for the heads up.
