All The Extras On The Dawn Of The Dead Blu-Ray | Screen Rant

Here are all the extras featured on Arrow’s Blu-ray set for Dawn Of The Dead. George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night Of The Living Dead kickstarted the zombie genre as it exists today, with the low-budget chiller finding a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse as hordes of flesh-hungry undead gather outside. The movie’s bleak tone and haunting ending stuck with viewers, and it ranks alongside Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as one of the most important horror films ever made.

George A. Romero made an entire series of zombie movies, following Night with 1978’s Dawn Of The Dead, where four survivors try to forget the zombie apocalypse while hiding in a shopping mall, while Day Of The Dead from 1985 might just be the goriest – and darkest – of the bunch. Survival Of The Dead from 2011 was the sixth and final entry, which sadly also proved to be Romero’s final film before his passing in 2017.

Dawn Of The Dead is often considered the filmmaker’s masterpiece, being a perfect blend of horror, action, and satire with numerous iconic scenes; it was later remade by Zack Snyder in 2004. There have been many different cuts and special editions of the film released over the years, but Arrow Video’s 2010 three-disc Blu-ray set is the one to beat. The Arrow Video set of Dawn Of The Dead is the most comprehensive set fans could hope for. The three-disc set features one Blu-ray disc which includes the theatrical cut, while the second and third discs are DVDs that hold the Director’s Cut and the Argento Cut – AKA Zombi – which was producer Dario Argento’s more action-focused version for its Italian release. In terms of extras, the first disc contains a great commentary with George and Christine Romero and Tom Savani, a lively chat that covers pretty much every aspect of production. There’s also a more dry track from producer Richard P. Rubinstein, which focuses more on the business side of making a low-budget movie.

Dawn Of The Dead’s Blu-ray disc also contains the excellent documentary Document Of The Dead, with the feature Lost Scenes featuring outtakes from Document. There’s also a fan documentary fitting dubbed Fan of the Dead. Disc two is the feature-length retrospective The Dead Will Walk which has interviews with pretty much every major cast and crew member, and it sure sounds like it was a fun production to work on.

Dawn Of The Dead disc three’s main extra feature is the vintage Scream Greats: Tom Savini, which was produced by Fangoria in the 1980s and covers the legendary make-up artist’s career. Filling out the disc is an assortment of trailers and TV spots, in addition to previews for other Arrow releases. As if that wasn’t enough, this Dawn Of The Dead Blu-ray also includes a 16-page booklet, a double-sided poster, and reversible sleeve art.
