WB Movies That Haven’t Changed Release Dates | Screen Rant

Movies

With so many delays due to coronavirus, here is every Warner Bros. movie that hasn’t changed its release date. The shutdowns of theaters and productions around the world have effectively ground Hollywood to a halt. The growth of the coronavirus pandemic has left 2020 without much of a spring or summer movie season as a result of every studio being forced to push back the releases of some of their biggest films of the year.

Warner Bros. is no exception and has made multiple announcements concerning new release dates for films through 2022. WB began by delaying multiple titles, such as SCOOB!In the Heights, and James Wan’s Malignant, but the most high profile film delayed was Wonder Woman 1984. Even though the Gal Gadot sequel only shifted back a few months while other films didn’t receive new dates, these were significant changes to WB’s slate. The reshuffling didn’t stop there, though, as Warner Bros. has announced several other release date changes. The latest shakeup delayed smaller films like Will Smith’s King Richard and an untitled Elvis movie, but it also affected some other WB blockbusters – most notably Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

The amount of delays Warner Bros. has already announced is already significant, and it is likely that more films will be pushed back. However, there are still over a dozen movies from the studio that have not been delayed during their multiple announcements. So far, here’s every Warner Bros. movie that hasn’t changed release dates.

Tenet

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has, quite shockingly, yet to be delayed. The highly-anticipated blockbuster is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2020 – despite the likelihood that theaters won’t be operating at full strength. Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debicki in a mysterious espionage film that involves time. As one of the most anticipated movies of 2020, the film could help draw people back to theaters once they reopen, but Tenet‘s current release date might also limit its box office potential.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Warner Bros. has yet to delay The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, with the third installment in the Conjuring franchise sticking to its September 11, 2020 release date. Directed by Michael Chaves, the film features the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren. Plot details are still largely unknown, but the title reveal did offer some clues to The Conjuring 3 borrowing from a 1981 case that saw Arne Cheyenne Johnson use “the devil made me do it” as her defense.

Godzilla vs. Kong

Godzilla v kong

Although Godzilla vs. Kong has been delayed before, Warner Bros. has not changed the film’s release date in light of coronavirus. The latest entry in the MonsterVerse is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2020. Godzilla vs. Kong is directed by Adam Wingard and features an all-star cast of franchise vets, like Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler, and new additions to the MonsterVerse, such as Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Brian Tyree Henry, and Jessica Henwick.

Dune

Timothee Chalamet from Dune movie

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot is still on Warner Bros.’ 2020 release schedule and is slated to hit theaters on December 18. The big-budget adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic novel is one of the year’s most anticipated movies thanks to the rich story, Villeneuve’s direction, and Dune‘s stacked cast. Timothée Chalamet stars as Paul Atreides with Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Stellen Skarsgård, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, and more in support.

Mortal Kombat

The upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot has also not been delayed, with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema keeping Mortal Kombat‘s January 15, 2021 release date. The film is directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan and Todd Garner, who is unsure if Mortal Kombat could still be delayed in the future. Featuring a collection of the franchise’s greatest fighters, Mortal Kombat stars Joe Taslim, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Hiroyuki Sanada, Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, and more.

The Matrix 4

The Matrix Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity

Keanu Reeves will return as Neo in The Matrix 4 on May 21, 2021, and WB has yet to move the film from this date. It is unclear if it will stick to this release date though since production on Matrix 4 has been shut down. The next entry in the Matrix franchise sees Lana Wachowski return to direct, as well as the return of Carrie Anne-Moss as Trinity and Jada Pinkett-Smith as Niobe. Some of the new cast members include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (possibly as someone related to Morpheus), Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra, and Neil Patrick Harris.

Space Jam 2

Space Jam 2 With Lebron James

LeBron James’ long-awaited continuation/reinvention of Space Jam is scheduled to come out on July 16, 2021. Despite LeBron’s professional basketball schedule being delayed with the NBA shut down, there has been no announcement from Warner Bros. that Space Jam 2‘s release will be affected. The sequel is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip) and started production last summer with multiple NBA and WNBA players scheduled to appear alongside LeBron and the cast of Looney Tunes characters.

The Suicide Squad

James Gunn and classic Suicide Squad team from 1980s comics

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is one of Warner Bros.’ DC projects that has yet to be delayed. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021, and Gunn is doing what he can to keep The Suicide Squad on track by editing the film at home. The sequel/reboot of 2016’s Suicide Squad features the returns of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and more. The Suicide Squad will also see the introductions of the unconfirmed characters Idris Elba, John Cena, David Dastmalchian, and others will play.

Fantastic Beasts 3

Warner Bros. has not delayed the release of Fantastic Beasts 3 either due to coronavirus. Although it was previously pushed back from a 2020 release, Fantastic Beasts 3 has since held November 12, 2021 as its release date. It remains to be seen if director David Yates can hit this date though since production on Fantastic Beasts 3 was shut down right when it was about to begin. Eddie Redmayne will return to star as Newt Scamander, while Johnny Depp is back as Gellert Grindelwald, Jude Law returns as Albus Dumbledore, and Ezra Miller will continue playing Credence/Aurelius Dumbledore.

Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson’s DC debut in Black Adam is still scheduled to happen on December 22, 2021. However, Johnson has already confirmed that coronavirus has impacted when the movie will begin filming. Originally scheduled to begin production in July, Black Adam will not begin filming until August or September. As long as the delay isn’t extended, Black Adam should still be able to hit its December 2021 date. When it does, fans will be able to see the DC movie that will feature members of the Justice Society of America.

Sherlock Holmes 3

Warner Bros. also has Sherlock Holmes 3 still on the schedule for a December 22, 2021 release. Featuring the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock and Jude Law as Watson, the next entry in the detective franchise will be directed by Dexter Fletcher. Originally scheduled to hit theaters in 2020, a delay for Sherlock Holmes 3 might still be on the horizon. It has the same release date as Black Adam and WB won’t want to compete with themselves at the box office. But for now, Sherlock Holmes 3 is sticking to its 2021 release.

Aquaman 2

Jason Momoa’s return as Arthur Curry will happen when Aquaman 2 hits theaters on December 16, 2022. The sequel to 2018’s $1 billion box office hit will once again be directed by James Wan and it is currently scheduled to go head-to-head with an unannounced Star Wars movie. With production not slated to begin until the middle of 2021, Aquaman 2 shouldn’t have any difficulties coming out on the announced release date.

Other Warner Bros. Movies

There are also a few other/smaller Warner Bros. movies that have not been delayed. Robert Zemeckis’ The Witches, starring Anne Hathaway, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 9, 2020. WB also has a live-action/CGI-hybrid Tom and Jerry movie slated for a December 23, 2020 release. John Lee Hancock’s The Little Things, starring Denzel Washington and Rami Malek, has a January 29, 2021 release date, while the Sesame Street movie, starring Anne Hathaway and Chance the Rapper, is scheduled to hit theaters January 14, 2022. Meanwhile, the live-action Minecraft movie adaptation has a March 4, 2022 release date, and the animated DC Super Pets film will be released on May 20, 2022.
