A recent datamine of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has revealed a handful of potential features that could be added to Nintendo’s popular life-simulator. All Animal Crossing games have featured real-time events that change the game depending on the time of day, the current month, and the season. Due to the ever-changing nature of Animal Crossing, fans can expect New Horizons to change drastically throughout its lifetime. The game has already undergone its Bunny Day Easter event, and Nintendo has revealed plans for an upcoming Earth Day event as well.
As of now, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is packed with activities for the player to enjoy on their personal island. Decorating a house, fishing, and catching bugs are all part of the wholesome, casual experience that defines Animal Crossing. However, some fans were surprised to find that Animal Crossing: New Horizons lacks some familiar NPC faces. The art dealer Redd, the angry mole Mr. Resetti, and even the friendly cat Rover who greets the player in New Leaf are nowhere to be found.
A dataminer by the name of Ninji revealed via Twitter that the art dealer Redd will make his triumphant return, along with a handful of new gameplay features. Ninji claims that the code of Animal Crossing: New Horizons points to future upgrades that will become available for the player’s museum, including an art room and gift shop. The art dealer Redd apparently will arrive at the “secret beach” on the north side of the player’s island, allowing them to purchase his paintings. In addition to this, various features completely new to New Horizons will be added. The player will be able to plant bushes like azaleas and hydrangeas, as well as vegetables such as tomatoes, sugar cane and pumpkins.
Another exciting potential feature is diving. Ninji claims to have found an extra section in the Critterpedia titled “Seafood.” This could point to a potential underwater area where the player could find various creatures and underwater plants. Currently, the only item in the game that would fit into that Critterpedia section is the Manila clam, which is used to craft fish bait. Nintendo could plan to add a whole new array of collectible sea creatures to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Ninji has recently shared massive amounts of information about the code behind New Horizons through Twitter. There is no way of knowing when these new features could be added, but Ninji speculates some features could come with the Earth Day update. With interesting facts about the games programming and potential upcoming features, Ninji’s Twitter page is quite an exciting read for any Animal Crossing fan. Regardless, Nintendo clearly has big plans for the ever-changing world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
