Here are some key tips to help beginner survivors stay alive in Dead By Daylight …at least for a little while longer. Dead By Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer title that pits four survivors against a player-controlled killer. It’s an intense game of cat and mouse as survivors work together to fix generators and escape the map while the killer relentlessly stalks them. Dead By Daylight arrived in 2016 and is still being played to this day, offering horror gamers a dark, adrenaline-soaked ride.
While Dead By Daylight has a selection of original killers to pick from, including The Trapper and The Legion, it’s added more iconic boogeyman over the years. Halloween’s Michael Myers or Stranger Things’ Demogorgon have been added to the roster, and each killer has their own unique playstyle and perks. The game has something of a rival in Friday The 13th: The Game, which has similar gameplay but only one killer in Jason. Dead By Daylight’s gameplay is a little darker and more stressful than Friday The 13th, though both are a fun time.

From the outside, Dead By Deadlight’s core gameplay may seem straightforward, with survivors being tasked with hiding and avoiding the killer. It’s a lot deeper than that, but for beginners here are some key tips and tricks to staying alive.
Divide And Conquer
In Dead By Daylight, four players are thrown into a map together and must repair five generators to escape. There will be a killer stalking them every inch of the way, but it’s worth remembering they can only stalk one player at a time. A good early tactic is to have one player distract the killer and run them around in circles while the others focus on generator repairs.
Refined Pallet
Dotted around the maps in Dead By Daylight are pallets that can be dropped in the path of a pursing killer, buying precious seconds. Some players exploit a trick known as pallet looping, where they run around a certain area before dropping a pallet on the killer. This is an exploit in the game’s design that can be useful for buying other players’ time to work on generators, but some Dead By Daylight think this cheapens the game.
Escape Plan
Some Dead By Daylight maps are bigger than others, allowing for more room to breathe. If players settle down to work on a genie, they should first examine their surroundings. If the killer arrives, players need to know where they’re going to run and if there are things like long grass or pallets nearby. Some killers are a good deal stealthier than others too, so keep an eye and ear out.
Survivor Type
Every Dead By Daylight survivor – which now includes the likes of Evil Dead’s Ash – has their own perks. For instance, Claudette comes with “Self-Heal,” which lets her heal herself without a medkit. Before leveling up, newcomers need to decide which playstyle suits them best and level that survivor up accordingly.
Off The Hook
The final tip swings back around to teamwork, which is essential to surviving Dead By Daylight. At a certain point, its almost guaranteed the killer will catch a survivor and hook them. The other players have the choice to rescue them, which should be the first option. That said, sometimes the killer camps around the hooked victim, using them as bait, so sometimes the only real option is other survivors working together to fix the other genies and escaping.
