A red-band trailer for Bad Trip, starring Eric Andre and Tiffany Haddish, reveals a prank-filled, hidden-camera comedy from the makers of Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. The film was initially scheduled to premiere at South By Southwest 2020, but plans changed when the event was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Currently, the film is still set for an April release, but with the recent wave of movie release date shifts, again, due to coronavirus, even that is now in question.
Orion Pictures appears to be moving ahead with the release for now, as they posted a red-band trailer for Bad Trip on YouTube. The trailer establishes the film’s simple premise: two best pals go on a road trip that results in a series of hilarious pranks, with the twist being that the film’s fictional narrative is interwoven with real-life people’s reaction to the stunts on hidden cameras. Andre and comedian Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) star as the two friends, Chris and Bud, respectively. Haddish plays Howery’s sister, an escaped convict angry that the two friends stole her car.
In a 2019 Esquire report, Andre revealed he assembled Nathan Fielder, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Jackass director Jeff Tremaine to give their input on the ambitious project. Andre also told the magazine, “On our third day of shooting, we got a knife pulled out. We went to this barbershop in the hood with our d***s connected in the Chinese finger trap, and we ran into this barbershop, and we’re like, ‘Does anybody got a scissors? Our d***s are stuck in this thing!’ This guy reached for his gun, couldn’t find it, grabbed his knife, chased us out.” Check out the trailer below:
If Bad Trip can avoid the coronavirus panic and somehow hold onto its release date, all of Andre’s mayhem will unfold on big screens everywhere on April 17, 2020. The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, from a script he co-wrote with Andre and Dan Curry.
