It’s been a month and Z-listers are still offering terrible takes about Phillip Schofield’s coming out

Former Dancing on Ice contestant Caprice Bourret has said that “nobody was shocked” when Phillip Schofield came out as gay, and we are so, so tired.

The model and television personality told the Express that she wasn’t surprised when the This Morning host came out as gay last month.

“Well, I don’t think that’s an issue,” she said.

It’s brave to come out and to be public about it. We’re in this business a long time, we know what’s going on,” she added.

Former Dancing on Ice contestant Caprice Bourret said ‘it’s just been known’ that Phillip Schofield is gay.

“I can’t say anything, you can’t say anything. The fact he came out as a gay is not a big deal at all.”

She continued: “I don’t think it’s been a talking point, it’s just been known. It wasn’t even like (makes shocked noise) nobody was shocked.”

Caprice Bourret’s comments come just a month after Schofield publicly came out as gay in a heart-wrenching Instagram post.

“You never know what’s going on in someone’s seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their wellbeing,” Schofield wrote at the time.

“And so you won’t know what has been consuming me for the last few years.

I don’t think it’s been a talking point, it’s just been known. It wasn’t even like (makes shocked noise) nobody was shocked.

“With the strength and support of my wife and daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.

“This is something that has caused heart-breaking conversations at home. I have been married to Steph for nearly 27 years, and we have two beautiful grown-up daughters, Molly and Ruby.

“My family have held me so close; they have tried to cheer me up, to smother me with kindness and love, despite their own confusion.

“Yet still I can’t sleep and there have been some very dark moments.

“My inner conflict contrasts with an outside world that has changed so very much for the better.”

So many celebrities completely missed the mark in reacting to Schofield’s coming out.

His coming out sparked a media storm and celebrities queued up to deliver their reactions – some of which missed the mark entirely.

Simon Cowell, in an attempt to come across as supportive and understanding, said he didn’t suspect Schofield was gay because his “gaydar isn’t great”.

“You’ve seen the support he has got because nobody cares,” he told TalkRadio’s Dan Wootton.

“I’ve worked on films, TV, in music and probably 50 per cent of the people I have worked with are gay, have been gay, whatever.

“It’s not even a conscious thought any more.”

Piers Morgan similarly insisted that Schofield’s coming out was not a big deal, but later faced criticism when he shared a text exchange with the newly-out presenter in his Daily Mail column.
