Love Is Blind Star Lauren Speed Says Her Father Has No Issue With Husband Cameron Hamilton Being White

I cannot be the only who cried watching Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton get married on the Love is Blind finale. They fell in love without even seeing each other through conversations they had in the “pods.”

Normally, I watch reality TV dating shows for the trainwrecks, but these two are just so pure and wonderful and I was actually very entertained. I, along with all of the other viewers cannot help rooting for them. Fun fact: Love Is Blind was actually filmed a year and a half ago. And good news, the two of them are actually still together today. For the most part it was all smooth sailing, except for the fact that Lauren never imagined herself dating a white guy, let alone marrying one.

Lauren’s dad wasn’t the warmest when he met Cameron, but let’s be honest: how would you feel about your daughter getting engaged to somone whose face she hasn’t seen and marrying him a month later. That is a lot to process, cultural and racial difference aside.

In an interview with Buzzfeed News, Lauren shared that she was happy with how her love story was portrayed, except for one part. Lauren told the website, “I have been watching the show and I wouldn’t say it was misleading, but I think that my father came across like, Oh, I don’t like him because he’s white, and that wasn’t even really the case.”

Lauren continued, “My dad was just concerned with his daughter going on a show, meeting a man through a wall, as any protective father would be. He wanted to make sure whoever this person was that they were the right person for his daughter. So in some ways, I thought that came across a little cloudy.” And again, those were very rational feelings for her father to have.

Over a year later, Cameron and Lauren’s father are actually in a great place. Lauren told Variety, “We do Sunday dinners, so my dad will come over on Sunday and we’ll all cook and listen to music. And right now, I’m learning how to play chess, so they’re both teaching me chess…it’s so beautiful. Yeah, like living a family.”

In her Buzzfeed News interview, Lauren dished on being in an interracial relationship. She said, “It actually wasn’t really an issue for me. It was something that I knew had to be addressed, and it had to be addressed honestly and without trying to protect each other’s feelings or walking on eggshells. But for me, it was never something I thought would stop us from being together.” And thank god it hasn’t. These two have made me believe in reality TV love again.

TELL US- ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT LAUREN AND CAMERON ARE STILL GOING STRONG? DID THE EDITING MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE LAUREN’S DAD DISAPPROVED OF CAMERON BECAUSE HE’S WHITE? DO YOU WANT US TO COVER MORE LOVE IS BLIND NEWS?
