Rebel Wilson takes flack for Aussie dog grooming show jokes

Rebel Wilson is barking mad.

The native Australian has copped some flack in her home country following a series of risqué jokes the comedienne made on family-friendly TV.

The 39-year-old “Pitch Perfect” star is the host of “Pooch Perfect,” a reality show in which ten professional dog stylists compete in a series of canine grooming challenges. The winner takes home a cool $100,000 (AUD).

Wilson, whose mother is a professional dog handler, raised eyebrows and caused a kerfuffle on Twitter with her R-rated, off-color wisecracks.

In one of the episodes, Wilson joked about a dog spotted wearing a pearl necklace. “Fun fact,” she quipped, “a pearl necklace means something different in Norway.” While the in-studio audience roared with laughter, Twitter followers were less amused.

“Was I expecting quality entertainment from #PoochPerfect? No,” one viewer noted, “But was I expecting Rebel Wilson to make a pearl necklace joke on a family show? Also no.”

Meanwhile, in a voice-over for the show, Wilson jokes — “Someone is about to be euthanized” before correcting herself, “Oh sorry, eliminated…I always get those words mixed up.”

For her part, Wilson seems to be taking it all in good humor. In a trailer for the show, Wilson remarks — “Finally, someone shining a positive light on grooming” before pausing and adding, “You’re welcome Australia.”
