Rap star and iconic gay cowboy Lil Nas X has won two Grammys for his viral hit “Old Town Road”.

At the 62nd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Lil Nas X took home Best Video and Best Pop Group performance.

Billie Eilish and Lizzo joined Lil Nas X to emerge as the big winners of the Grammys, having been the top three most-nominated artists ahead of the awards show.

Lil Nas X and Billie Eilish were each up for six awards. Eilish won big, with four Grammys for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

Lizzo won three Grammys, for Pop Solo Performance, Urban Contemporary Album and Traditional R&B Performance.

Lil Nas X tweeted: “THANK U TO EVERYBODY!! I AM NOW GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST LIL NAS X!!!”

Meanwhile, his outfit also proved to be award-winning.

Lil’ Nas X proving that his genre-crossing extends to clothes too. What would you call this? Dominatrix cowboy Versace?” tweeted New York Times fashion director  and critic Vanessa Friedman.

Lil Nas X dressed as a cowboy dominatrix in head-to-toe pink Versace took the internet by storm.

“Got the horses…and the handcuffs… in the back???” was the most-common response on Twitter to pictures of the star’s Grammys outfit.

Lil Nas X and Tyler the Creator both took home awards.

And people were quick to stan the fact that Lil Nas X was one of two queer Black men to win at the Grammy Awards.

Tyler, the Creator won Best Rap Album for ‘IGOR’. Onstage, he spoke about how he “never felt fully accepted in rap”, thanking his fans and Pharrell Williams for “opening up doors”.

Backstage, in the press room, he was more candid about racism at the Grammys.

When asked about the “recent news about the voting process” and “whether or not that’s affected how he looks at his win”, he replied: “I’m half and half on it. On one side I’m very grateful that what I made could just be acknowledged in a world like this.”

“But also it sucks that whenever we — and I mean guys that look like me — do anything that’s genre-bending or that’s anything they always put it in a rap or urban category.

“I don’t like that urban word — it’s just a politically correct way to say the n-word to me.

“So when I hear that, I’m just like why can’t we be in pop? Half of me feels like the rap nomination was just a backhanded compliment.”
