X-Men Fan Art Imagines The Punisher’s Jon Bernthal As Wolverine

Movies

An Instagram user shared fan art that features Jon Bernthal from The Punisher as X-Men‘s Wolverine. The Punisher TV series, which aired on Netflix in November 2017, is known for taking a different approach to the world of superheroes and their nemeses. The characters have no superpowers and, as the actor Ben Barnes stated during an interview, the story is one with themes about “men suffering tragedy and trauma.

On another occasion, Barnes stated that The Punisher doesn’t glorify violence. On the opposite side, he said that the series was supposed to show “the wear and tear on characters if they are violent.” Regardless of this ethical perspective, the Netflix show got mixed reviews: while most critics praised Bernthal’s performance, others found the series to be too long and tedious. Jon Bernthal had also played Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, in Daredevil

The fan art Instagram account, spdrmnkyxxiii celebrated Bernthal’s success, but not in the role of Frank Castle. Instead, the social media artist represented the actor as Wolverine, the anti-hero from the popular X-Men franchise. In the Instagram post, Bernthal appears with the Logan’s metallic claws, a cigar in his mouth, and that signature hair style. Check out the fan art, below.

Wolverine has been played by Hugh Jackman for over 16 years in Marvel movies. The actor, together with his colleague Patrick Stewart, broke a Guinness World Record for the longest career in superhero movies. However, since Disney bought the X-Men and the Fantastic Four from Fox, fans have been speculating about who will play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Initially, rumors said that the anti-hero role had been offered to Taron Egerton, but the actor quickly denied the news. Since then, fan artists have represented Keanu Reeves and Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine. Additionally, a Change.org petition asking that Danny DeVito be cast as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe even garnered over 50,000 signatures.

Understandably, the fans are eager to discover who will play Wolverine next Marvel movies, and they will keep speculating on social media until an official announcement is made. Jackman’s performance made the clawed mutant hero unforgettable, and whoever will take the role after him will carry a huge responsibility towards the fans. With his bad-guy appeal and his experience in playing anti-hero roles in the Marvel universe, Bernthal undoubtedly seems a good fit. Unfortunately, the fans still need to wait to discover who will be the next Wolverine.
