Lando’s Final Star Wars 9 Scene Has a Big Twist Only Revealed in New Companion Book

Movies

Another missing piece from The Rise of Skywalker has been located outside of the movie. This time around, it has to do with Lando Calrissian and his rather cryptic comments to Jannah at the conclusion of the movie. So far, we have learned quite a bit about J.J. Abrams’ story from Fortnite and The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary, which also reveals the mystery planet that Kylo Ren was on at the beginning of the movie is Mustafar. There are SPOILERS for The Rise of Skywalker below, so read ahead at your own risk.

The Rise of Skywalker sees the Resistance triumph over the First and Last Order. As we see Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian celebrating, he says something to Naomi Ackie’s Jannah. She asks him a question and he appears to not really be interested at first. However, when he looks at her, he sees something. He asks Jannah where she’s from and she replies she doesn’t know (she was abducted by the First Order as a child.) Lando then cryptically says, “Well, let’s find out…” Star Wars fans weren’t exactly sure what to make of the response or Lando’s delivery. Is he trying to seduce the young woman, or are they related?

Well, The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary once again saves the day. As it turns out, Lando Calrissian had a rough couple of years after Return of the Jedi. The book states, “When peace reigned, [Lando] attempted to start a family, but tragedy struck and his infant daughter vanished.” At first, his daughter’s disappearance was a mystery, though it would not be for long. The book continues by stating, “It was only later that it became clear who the culprits behind the abduction were: the First Order, building their fighting forces but also specifically striking out at the old Alliance leadership.” That’s right. The book is now implying that Jannah is Lando’s long-lost daughter.

Ever since Jannah was introduced, many Star Wars fans immediately thought she could be Lando’s daughter. However, it seemed too far-fetched and a bit like lazy writing, so the theory was mostly set aside. Now, it appears that she probably is really his daughter and we have to read a book to know that. J.J. Abrams may have stretched his mystery box a bit too thin this time around.

Nearly all of the leaks and wild speculation has proven to be true with The Rise of Skywalker. J.J. Abrams claims he didn’t try to please everybody or retcon The Last Jedi, but it sure appears like he did both, and he did it a lot. One can only imagine what else the future of Star Wars comic books, novels, and video games are going to reveal about the final installment in the Skywalker Saga.
