James Wan-Produced ‘Mortal Kombat’ Shifts to January 2021

Horror

Originally set for release in March of the same year, Warner Bros. will now release the James Wan-produced Mortal Kombat earlier on January 15, 2021.

The ensemble cast includes Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Chin Han as Shang Tsun, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, stuntwoman Elissa Cadwell as Nitara, and Sisi Stringer as Mileena. Lewis Tan (Wu Assassins) is playing an unknown leading character.

Greg Russo wrote the script, with Simon McQuoid directing.

We’ve been promised a rated “R” adaptation of the video games that will most definitely feature Fatalities.

Midway debuted the video game in 1992 with a story focusing on the monk Liu Kang working to save Earth from an evil sorcerer. The development of the first game was originally based on an idea that Ed Boon and John Tobias had of making a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but then evolved into a horror-fantasy fighting game.
