EON Productions and MGM have revealed the first footage from the upcoming No Time to Die, aka James Bond 25. Filming recently wrapped on the highly-anticipated and long-awaited sequel to 2015’s Spectre. Daniel Craig is coming back for one last go-around as 007 and this provides us with our first real look at what his final adventure as the iconic MI6 spy is going to look like.

It’s been a long, bumpy road to get to this place. Famously, when Spectre finished filming, Daniel Craig said he would rather “slash his wrists” rather than return for another Bond movie. For quite some time, the fate of Bond 25 hung in the balance as we played a game of “Will he? Won’t he?” with Craig regarding his return. Once Craig signed on, things didn’t get much easier. It was difficult to nail down a script and a director. Eventually, Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) came on board, only to exit the project months before filming was scheduled to begin over creative differences.

After much deliberation, it was then decided that Cary Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation), True Detective) would direct the movie. It marks a major milestone, as Fukunaga is the first American director to ever tackle an entry in the long-running franchise. The script was originally written by franchise regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Scott C. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum), a noted script doctor in Hollywood, was then brought on board. Finally, Fleabag star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge was also hired to do some work on the script and, since she may be writing James Bond 26, she apparently did a fine job.

No Time To Die centers on Bond who has left active service following the events of Spectre. he is enjoying a quiet life in Jamaica until his old buddy Felix Leiter from the CIA arrives asking for help. They then head off on a mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist that winds up being far more complicated than expected. This leads Bond trying to track down a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology. This villain will be played by Oscar-winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody).

This is Daniel Craig’s fifth turn as 007 following Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. Will his version of the character be able to go out on a high-note? That’s the million (or if things go really well, billion) dollar question. Returning cast members include Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Ben Whishaw (Q) and Jeffrey Wright (Felix). The rest of the ensemble includes Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Dali Benssalah (A Faithful Man), David Dencik (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel). No Time to Die is set to hit theaters on April 8, 2020, from MGM and EON Productions. Be sure to check out the trailer for yourself.
