A Sony art director has given Black Knight from Eternals a concept treatment. Black Knight is a character that dates all the way back to December 1967 when he appeared in The Avengers #47. Next year, the character will be making his cinematic debut when he joins the MCU.
Back in August during Disney’s D23 fan event, Marvel revealed that Kit Harington would be playing Black Knight and that the character would first appear in Eternals next year. Black Knight has a link with the Eternals in the comics, with the character bonding his psyche with the Eternal Sersi to save her life. That being said, it’s impossible to know if this storyline will be used in the movie. Black Knight has also teamed up with the Avengers before, which seems likely to happen in a future movie since the films seem to be focusing more on multiverses. Little is actually known about MCU’s Black Knight at this point, but now we have an idea of what the character could look like in Eternals.
An art director from Sony named Raf Grassetti recently shared his interpretation of what the character could look like when he is introduced in Eternals. The artist manages to make the character look comic accurate, while also revamping his outfit to make him look like he could fit within the MCU. Grassetti’s artwork can be seen in his Instagram post below:
While fans will be excited to see Harington in a superhero role, he will likely be a side character in Eternals. The movie will instead focus on a group of immortal beings played by Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Brian Tyree Henry, Dong-Seok Ma, Lia McHugh, and Lauren Ridloff. Fans have gotten concept art of Eternals at D23, and even a handful of set photos from the film have shown some of the characters in their costumes. However, fans have yet to get a glimpse of Black Knight.
While Grassetti wasn’t involved with the development of Eternals, this artwork is one of the best pieces of fan art we have seen for the film. The armor includes enough references to the comics while also creating something new that fits into the aesthetic that Marvel has created for their cinematic universe. It’s possible that Marvel could go for something like this, or they could go in a completely different direction. Hopefully, fans will get a peek at the character soon, but Marvel could also keep his character design a secret until the movie comes out in November 2020.
