Bob’s Burgers Movie Is Still Happening, Disney Puts It Back on Release Schedule

Movies

Rejoice, all you Bob’s Burgers fans. There is nothing to worry about, as Disney still plans to release their upcoming Bob’s Burgers movie on its previously announced release date of July 17, 2020.

It was inappropriately reported by various sources earlier in the day that the Bob’s Burgers movie release date was canceled, and that it had been pulled from Disney’s impending release slate. But this was an oversight, and is one hundred percent not true. The popular Fox animated family will be making their way to the big screen this summer.

The Bob’s Burgers movie was originally announced in the fourth quarter of 2017, before Fox became a part of the Disney Family. There weren’t many reports regarding the animated comedy until the Disney Fox merger was officially completed earlier this year. Shortly there after, Disney released an all-encompassing movie release slate that featured all of their upcoming projects including future Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar outings. But some folks were beyond excited to see that the Bob’s Burgers movie had an official date, and it is still coming out, so there is nothing to worry about.

Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard was quite ecstatic about the original announcement way back in 2017, and had this to say about the future Disney animated movie.

“We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s, but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”

Between late 2017 and summer 2019, not much was ever revealed about the Bob’s Burgers movie. Then Loren Bouchard publicly spoke out about the feature film once again, this time addressing all of the fans at Comic-Con. It was here that the Bob’s Burgers movie was revealed to be a mystery-musical.

“We have been very, very hard at work on the Bob’s Burgers movie. There’s a lot we can’t talk about. It’s hopefully going to be a Bob’s Burgers gift to you, [the fans], if we do our job. It’s a musical. It’s a mystery. […] We are very, very excited that that’s part of our day-to-day right now.”

At the time, Loren Bouchard wouldn’t open up much more about what was in store. But he did tease that some of Bob’s mysterious backstory will be explored. He offered this tease about the top secret mythology behind Bob.

“Some of that is going to be in the movie. A small amount. I think it’s strongly suggested that [his mother] died, and I think that’s important to me, and to Bob’s character, that she’s a bit of a hole in his life.”

The musical element has always been important to Bob’s Burgers, and a massive soundtrack was released last year that includes all of the original songs ever heard on the show. The Bob’s Burgers movie soundtrack will probably be a pretty big deal for fans when it gets released next summer. Until then we can all rest easy knowing that the Belcher family will be visiting the local multiplex soon enough. This release date news comes from Walt Disney Studios.
