Purgatory can be a Hell of a town, so here’s what went down in Wynonna Earp season 2. As the name implies, Wynonna is a descendent of iconic lawman Wyatt Earp, whose exploits have been explored in movies like Gunfight At The O.K. Corral and Tombstone starring Kurt Russell. Wynonna Earp finds the title character coming to Purgatory for a funeral and being forced to rid the town of The Revenants – who are spirits of those killed by Wyatt.
Wynonna has to battle them with Wyatt’s trusty Peacemaker revolver and battle the assorted demons and witches who inhabit the town. Wynonna Earp is a delightful mix of action and horror with Melanie Scrofano (Ready Or Not) perfectly cast in the lead. The first season found the character taking on villain Bobo Del Rey and eventually her own sister Willa, who turned evil. She succeeded in taking them – and a hellish tentacle monster – down in the finale, which ended with Agent Dolls being taken away by the Black Badge for interrogation.

Wynonna Earp season 2 picks up from this point, with episode 1 finding the gang rescuing Dolls from Black Badge, who promptly goes missing for a couple of episodes. Back in Purgatory, a new threat emerges in the form of the intensely creepy Widows, who are seeking to unleash a powerful demon that can resurrect their husband Sheriff Clootie. It’s also discovered Wynonna’s younger sister Waverly – who is possessed by a demon – has been keeping Dolls locked away.
Wynonna Earp is eventually able to expel the demon from Waverly and kill it. Wynonna also realizes she’s pregnant, but the identity of the father remains a mystery for much of season 2. After taking a vision quest to the 19th century, she discovers Doc’s ring is the key to breaking the last seal the Widows need. She plans to destroy it, only for Waverly to mess it up by making a deal with a vengeful witch. The end result of this is the witch casting a spell that makes Doc and Wynonna disappear and causing everyone to forget about them.
The heavily pregnant Wynonna is able to break this spell and return reality to normal, while the Widows break the seal and resurrect Clootie, though Wynonna and Doc succeed in killing the Widows. Wynonna Earp season 2 ends with her giving birth, and Doc being revealed as the father. They send their child away to be with relatives since Purgatory is no place for a family, which is a choice that hurts none the less. It also sets up Clootie – who was the one who cursed the Earp family in the first place – as a key villain for season 3.
