This year has been surprisingly Critters-heavy, kicking off with Shudder’s series “Critters: A New Binge” back in March. That 8-episode return of the franchise, if you’re asking me, was quite awful, but I actually had a lot of fun with the brand new movie that came along shortly thereafter: Critters Attack!, which went straight to Blu-ray and VOD over the summer.
The first new Critters *movie* in nearly 30 years, Critters Attack! was written by Scott Lobdell (Happy Death Day) and directed by Bobby Miller (The Cleanse), and it debuts on Syfy this Saturday, October 19th. The film will premiere at 9pm EST, following in the wake of a Nightmare on Elm Street franchise marathon that includes the original through Freddy’s Dead.
Critters Attack! follows 20-year-old Drea (Tashiana Washington), who reluctantly takes a job babysitting for a professor of the college she hopes to attend. Struggling to entertain the professor’s children Trissy (Ava Preston) and Jake (Jack Fulton), along with her own little brother Phillip (Jaeden Noel), Drea takes them on a hike, unaware that mysterious alien critters have crash-landed and started devouring every living thing they encounter.
Dee Wallace is even back, reprising her role from the original Critters!
