Former Catwomen Unite in Championing Zoe Kravitz as New Catwoman in The Batman

Days after Zoe Kravitz landed the coveted role of Selina Kyle in The Batman, the actress is already garnering the support of some of the other ladies who’ve previously played Catwoman on the big screen. Previously, Robert Pattinson had been cast in the lead role of Bruce Wayne, and there were many different actresses rumored to play opposite him as Catwoman. It was recently reported Kravitz had officially been cast in the role, bringing about a largely positive reception to the casting choice. While most fans seem to be on board with the idea, former Catwoman actresses Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway, and Halle Berry are offering their support to Kravitz as well.

Speaking about the casting on Good Morning America, Michelle Pfeiffer welcomed Kravitz into the fold by offering her some sound advice in preparation for the part. Of course, Pfeiffer is well-known for playing Selina Kyle in the Tim Burton sequel Batman Returns, appearing along with Michael Keaton as Batman and Danny DeVito as Penguin. “Make sure, whilst designing the costume, they consider how you’re gonna go to the bathroom,” Pfeiffer joked, adding that while this might be a minor detail, it’s definitely an “important” one. This echoes the advice Christian Bale says he told Ben Affleck after passing him the Batman torch, where he quipped, “You don’t feel much like a superhero when you can’t take a piss by yourself.”

In 2004, Halle Berry took over the role for the standalone movie Catwoman from director Pitof. This version was a bit of a looser interpretation of the classic character, as she wasn’t named Selina Kyle and the movie did not include Batman or any other DC heroes or villains. Following the casting of Kravitz as the new Catwoman, Berry took to Twitter to praise the casting choice and lend her support to the actress taking on the part. “Special shout-out to your new Catwoman, the eternally graceful & extremely bad ass Zoe Kravitz,” Berry says. She adds: “Keep shining Queen & welcome to the family!”

More recently, Catwoman was portrayed by Anne Hathaway in the Christopher Nolan movie The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. This marks the final time (thus far) a live-action version of Catwoman has appeared on the big screen, as she wasn’t present in any of the DCEU movies. Like the other Catwomen, Hathaway also praised the casting choice of Kravitz as the new Selina, making her opinion clear in a post on her Instagram account. “The biggest congrats to Zo&ë Kravitz on landing the role of a lifetime. Well, one life anyway…&⁣&⁣ Enjoy the ride, Selina,” Hathaway writes in the online post.

The Batman is currently slated to premiere in theaters on June 25, 2021. As we head closer towards production and with the cast starting to fill up, we’ll likely be hearing more official announcements very soon. This news comes to us from Halle Berry on Twitter, Anne Hathaway on Instagram, and Good Morning America.
