90 Day Fiance Is Casting College Students For A New Series

Reality TV

The 90 Day Fiance franchise is a highly entertaining guilty pleasure that fans can’t seem to get enough of.  The series expanded to include Happily Ever After, Before the 90 Days, and 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way.  Watching each batch of outrageous couples making questionable decisions never gets old.  Seriously, where do they find these people?  Some are so deluded that they ignore all reason and red flags to continue with the partner they’ve chosen.

Maybe part of the appeal is watching people that should know better self-implode.  Some are clearly confusing physical attraction with “love.”  Others seem to court dysfunction time and again.  Let’s face it, some are just looking for their 15 minutes of fame.  So far, the couples are varying in age.  We have young lovebirds like Omar Albakour and Avery Mills, but also Angela Deem who is hanging on to her fertility by one lonesome little egg.  So the question is, where do we go from here in terms of a new angle?

Starcasm reported that Sharp Entertainment has decided to exploit the folly of youth by looking for couples that are currently in college.  These couples would have already met in person and established a relationship, unlike the online dating we’ve come to expect from the show.  The foreign student would presumably have a student visa and be living in the U.S. legally already.

Sharp Entertainment made an official announcement that they are, “casting couples for a new documentary series with a major cable network.  Specifically, we are casting students (college/university/graduate students) who are in a relationship, in which one partner in the relationship is an international student (studying in the U.S. on a student visa).”  They are naming the show 90 Day Fiance: College Edition.

They are seeking couples with an upcoming graduation date, presumably at a time when each partner is making life-changing decisions.  Sharp said, “we are ideally looking for international students who are graduating by the end of this year.”

The casting call mandates that one partner is a U.S. citizen.  The foreign partner “must be an international student graduating around December 2019, or a former international student whose OPT is expiring soon.”  Once the student visa or OPT (Optional Practical Training) expires, the person who received the documentation must leave the country.  And there’s the brilliance of it.  We have another spin-off!

There is also an option to cast married couples.  Maybe Sharp is going for a plot twist here.  They state, “if married: One spouse must be a U.S. citizen.  One must be a former international student.”
