[EXCLUSIVE VIDEO] Soska Sisters Talk Rabid & Horror With HFN

Horror

Horror Freak News had the opportunity to talk with the extremely talented Soska Sisters at the Days of the Dead Horror Convention in Charlotte, NC. Below is a transcript from that interview. Be sure to check out the video.

Sgt. Horror:  This is Sgt. Horror here. Horror Freak News at Days of the Dead. And I got none other than the legendary twisted twins. Some of my favorite film makers, the Soska Sisters. All the way down from Canada. It’s amazing. They got a new project out, called Rabid. Now I’ve been on the blog giving Hollywood a hard time for making remakes. And y’all made a remake. I hadn’t seen it yet. Why did y’all choose Rabid to do it?

Soska Sisters Rabid

Soska Sisters:  Well, you know, I actually hate remakes and I hated the idea of a filmmaker that doesn’t both love David Cronenberg and understand his work handling a remake because then some fool could watch it. The bad remake can be like David Cronenberg sucks. So I took one for David Cronenberg. I never wanted to remake anything, but I knew it was being remained. So it had to be with the hands of someone who loves them. And it was the funniest story ever. Uh, we got an email in the middle of December saying, would you like to remake Rabid? And we’re like, that’s pretty random. Um, my sister sent it to our representation. They’re like, that couldn’t be real. But I was like, yeah, of course. That’s a dream job. And so the next day found out how Rabid even came there. This was a company that usually makes religious movies. Then they made a religious horror movie and it made a ton of bank and they were like, let’s make a movie about rabid dogs. So they grabbed Rabid, not knowing what transhumanism was, they didn’t know anything about Cronenberg, but they had given the script that they made about rabid dogs to David and asked him to be a producer and he said, that’s not what it’s about. So they Googled Cronenberg and our names popped up. So that was how the interview started. So if we had left Rabid alone, I don’t know what would’ve happened to it were like, Oh man, now we have to do the remake.

Sgt. Horror:  What’s next for y’all? Do y’all have a project lined up yet or are y’all just ready for the release of Rabid?

Soska Sisters:  We have two films. One is an original Bob that we’ve been trying to get made for a long time that is going into production. Another one is one I can’t say much about, but it’s going to be starting a legendary female horror icon that we’ve been dying to work with. And the other one is a television series. We’ve really, really been wanting to do a TV series for a long time cause with movies it’s like a one-night-stand. You only get to be in a little bit. You only get to spend so much time with your cast crew characters developing. I really want to live in a TV series and there hasn’t been a TV series as good as we’re better than Buffy in awhile and this series is better than Buffy.

Sgt. Horror:  You know what has surprise me? It just shows you the ignorance to some of them people out there at the corporations in Hollywood is why the hell hadn’t American Horror Stories called these two filmmakers and have them do American horror stories, Twisted Twins version, who don’t want to see that? That’s what I’m talking about. See y’all are out of touch Hollywood with what the fans want. But us horror freaks, we know what the horror fans want. If y’all had the Twisted Sisters producing American Horror Story, you’d have a hit instead of crap. Anyway, Tom Savini come over here and got ya’ll autographs. Would you like to work with Tom.

Soska Sisters:  I love, there was one time we were at a convention and we were sharing a table and instead of calling him Tom, I just [inaudible] seven Oh Sex Machine, your Sex Machine. I was like, do you have it on you? He didn’t. You know the little gun thing from here? Yeah. We’ve been friends ever since. Every time we see each other at at a horror con, it’s just kinda like rolling stones, but he got one of the sexy pictures of us, so I’m going to go get a sexy picture of him from my wall. Yeah, he’s like a wine. He just gets sexier with every year he does the birthday picture and I’m like, I need to work on my crunches. I don’t need a shame.

Sgt. Horror:   If y’all did a TV show, would you be behind the camera or in front of the camera? A little bit of both.

Soska Sisters:  You know, that’s so interest. See, because Jennifer and I actually want to turn them Dead Ringers into a TV series, but switch the genders so they’re proctologists and female. I want to star in it, but she wants the [inaudible] twins to come out of retirement. Jen says there’s too much weird stuff. The Olsen twins will never do the things that need to happen in this. Just let me beg them once you can and after they say no, there’ll be you. And I’ll be like, so just get in there just so Ashley, it’s me. What’s up? Ready to do some Cronenberg. You guys are proctologists do muffins. They’d have fun. They would.

Sgt. Horror:  Can you tell us anymore about when they can go see Rabid?

Soska Sisters:  I can say it’s coming out later this year. I can say that the UK is unfortunately going to get it sooner because the UK put a little bit more into the film. I will say that the U S release, uh, especially the DVD and Blu-ray, we’ll have it exclusive director commentary from us. The film you really want to get a director commentary with because it’s, you can really enjoy it on a very surface level, but then you can really enjoy it as a horror fan. A Cronenberg fan. There aren’t just a Matias two Cronenberg’s where there’s In The Mouth of Madness, there’s Irreversible, there’s a of course, American Psycho, all our favorite stuff. So the horror fans are just going to be like, Oh wow. Oh that, Oh do you think they know that? Yeah, absolutely. This is a film made for the horror fans. In fact, the only criticism we’ve gotten is it’s too respectful to David Cronenberg. And then North American premier is a October 15th at Scream Fest where we will be in attendance with a bunch of the people that worked on the movie, and a bunch of our friends. So if you haven’t gone to Scream Fest best come see Rabid, this is the year.

Sgt. Horror:   I’ve got two more questions and I’ll y’all be, cause I got, y’all got fans, I heard a rumor that y’all do comic books.

Soska Sisters:  That’s true. We just worked on Black Widow for Marvel and we made an actually kind of a risk case story. Um, normally the Black Widow goes after Marvel villains, but they said that she’s a little softer in the movie and they said, could you find the hardest story in existence? And the most horrible people in the world are elite pedophiles in my opinion. So anyone that hurts children. So we send Black Widow to an Island and there’s parodies of uh, maybe Epstein, maybe Brian Singer. It’s the feel good story of the year to see her rip these people apart. It’s called No Restraints Play and it’s out. Now

Sgt. Horror:  It’s out. You can get it on Amazon. I’m pretty sure you guys got Amazon prime. You could get it on Ebay. Bring it to the cons and have em sign it for you. I want to know this too. I’m sorry. I said two questions. I got one more. If the guys from American Horror Story call and they say, we y’all do American horror stories. Will y’all do it?

Soska Sisters:  Ah, we would love to work on that show.

Sgt. Horror:  What scares y’all?

Soska Sisters:  She’s going to bum everybody out. People commitments dating. I don’t know.

Sgt. Horror:  Would you probably date a clown?

Soska Sisters:  Only a pig clown.

Sgt. Horror:  Only if pig clown. You hear this now let me tell you something. I’ll speak on this real quick. I’m going to rant real quick and then I’m gonna let, I’m gonna let her answer it. These ladies, they beautiful, but they are some of the most intelligent horror freaks I’ve ever met. They know genre. They know what the fans want. They know filmmaking. They talking about color. Lighting, like I’ve never heard another director on this level talk about before. This is my opinion, is the future of horror. If Hollywood gets off their ass and starts greenlighting more their films, I want to see a Soska Sister film or TV show every year. Hollywood. Now what are you afraid of?

Soska Sisters:   I am afraid of nothing. Not a single fucking thing. I’m the thing they’re afraid of.
