The Hate U Give: Every Song On The Soundtrack | Screen Rant

Here’s every song that can be found on The Hate U Give’s soundtrack album. The Hate U Give is a 2018 drama based off the acclaimed young adult novel of the same name by author Angie Thomas. The story follows Starr Carter (Amandla Stenberg, The Hunger Games), a girl from a predominantly black neighborhood called Garden Heights, who also attends a private school with mostly white students. This means Starr often has to balance two sides of her personality, but tragedy strikes one night when a friend named Khalil is driving her home and they’re pulled over by a cop.

Khalil is shot and killed when the officer mistakes a hairbrush he was holding for a weapon, and Starr is convinced to testify about the shooting. When the officer responsible for the shooting is set free, this causes racial tensions in Garden Heights to boil over and threatens both sides of Starr’s world. The Hate U Give was directed by George Tillman, Jr (Faster) and while it was only a modest success upon release it greeted with acclaim. The movie is a powerful look at race relations and police brutality in America and Amandla Stenberg, in particular, was praised for her performance as Starr. The movie even received an A+ CinemaScore from audiences – which is an extremely rare feat.

13. ocean eyes (Billie Eilish)

14. Always (Amandla Stenberg)

The Hate U Give soundtrack has a pretty incredible line-up of talent, including two songs by Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and the song “Always” was sung by the movie’s star Amandla Stenberg herself. The title of the book was also inspired by Tupac’s hip-hop group Thug Life, with the name itself standing for “The Hate U Give Little Infants F***s Everybody,” which means the hatred given to children from a young age is harmful to everyone.

The Hate U Give soundtrack is a great companion to the movie itself and is well worth seeking out for fans.
