Black Widow Poster Shows David Harbour As Red Guardian

Movies

It’s a fascinating time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as we’re currently in the interim year between Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the beginning of Phase Four. The past month has been particularly exciting, as Marvel Studios has methodically releases its plans for the next slate of movies, which will begin with Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. D23 and San Diego Comic-Con revealed the first glimpses of this highly anticipated solo movie, including Stranger Things standout David Harbour.

David Harbour’s inclusion in the MCU is an exciting prospect for cinephiles, who have loved his tenure as Hopper in the Netflix series, and were disappointed with the poor performance of Hellboy. He’ll once again get the chance to play a comic book role by portraying Red Guardian in the MCU, and a poster for Black Widow has shown the character off, as well as Scarlett Johansson and the rest of the cast. Check it out below.

Hopper is out, and Alexei Shostakov/ Red Guardian is officially in. This new poster shows off the new cast, and gives Black Widow an awesome new suit for the upcoming blockbuster. Although all eyes are on David Harbour’s appearance and mask.

This new poster comes to us from artist Andy Park, who designed it specifically for the movie’s presence at this year’s D23. The poster puts Natasha Romanoff in her usual Avengers suit, although this one has gold accents in her belt and gauntlets that help to make the image really pop. It looks like she might also be wearing some extra amor in the Black Widow movie, as seen on her shoulder pads. Considering the upcoming movie will put her at odds with the villainous Taskmaster and his photographic reflexes, the OG Avenger may need all the help she can get.

Taskmaster is shown above Widow’s image, looming over the cast of Cate Shortland’s highly anticipated blockbuster. His role in the movie is largely mystery, but he’s set up to the the primary antagonist. It’s unclear who might be playing Taskmaster, but we should expect some pulse pounding action when that character goes up against Black Widow.

David Harbour’s Red Guardian looks badass in the image as well, and the second character wearing a mask in the movie. Natasha Romanoff typically doesn’t hide her identity during superheroic adventures, but it seems Alexei Shostakov wants to keep his identity under wraps. In the comics, Shostakov is actually Natasha’s husband, although they end up having very different fates on the page. He’s Russians’ version of Captain America, and ultimately faced off against The Avengers. But how the character will be adapted for the Black Widow movie is unclear.

Also revealed at D23 was Natasha Romanoff’s new all-white suit, which she’ll be rocking sometime during the runtime of Black Widow. You can check it out below, courtesy of Twitter.

More like White Widow, am I right? Just what makes Natasha rock such a drastically different look is unclear, but the suit is stunning and is a great way to tease the upcoming movie, and keep the fandom interested in the months until the movie finally arrives in theaters to kickstart Phase Four.

Black Widow is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, and should fill in the gap between that movie and her eventual appearance in Avengers: Infinity War. This will presumably show what she was doing in those years as an outlaw, and why she eventually adopted the short blonde hairdo she rocked during Thanos’ mission to acquire the Infinity Stones.

All will be revealed when Black Widow arrives in theaters on May 1st, 2020. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
